Overview

Yuan Ze University (YZU) is a private research university located in Taoyuan City, Taiwan. It was founded in 1989 by Far Eastern Group as the Chang Gung College of Medicine and Technology, and became a full-fledged university in 1997. YZU is known for its liberal arts and engineering programs, and has been consistently ranked as one of the top universities in Taiwan.

History

YZU’s roots can be traced back to the founding of the Chang Gung Medical College in 1987 by the Chang Gung Foundation, a charitable organization established by the Far Eastern Group. In 1992, the college was expanded to include engineering programs and was renamed the Chang Gung College of Medicine and Technology. Three years later, it was granted university status and changed its name to Yuan Ze University.

Organization

YZU is governed by a board of trustees and led by a president, who is assisted by vice presidents in charge of academic affairs, research and development, and administrative affairs. The university has 6 colleges and 22 departments, and offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in a variety of fields.

Campus

YZU’s main campus is located in Taoyuan City, about 30 kilometers from Taipei. It covers an area of 67 hectares and is home to academic buildings, research labs, student dormitories, sports facilities, and green spaces. The campus is designed to be environmentally friendly, with features such as solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and bicycle lanes.

Academics

YZU offers programs in a wide range of disciplines, including engineering, management, humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Its faculty members are renowned scholars and researchers who conduct cutting-edge research in areas such as nanotechnology, biomedicine, renewable energy, and sustainable development. The university also has partnerships with more than 200 universities in over 30 countries, providing students with opportunities for international exchange and collaboration.
