Overview
Xi’an Jiaotong University (XJTU) is a national “211 Project” key university located in Xi’an, Shaanxi, China. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China, and is recognized as a member of the C9 League, the Chinese equivalent of the Ivy League.
History
Xi’an Jiaotong University was founded in 1896 as the Nanyang Public School and was renamed Jiaotong University in 1921. In 1956, the university was moved to Xi’an and merged with the Xi’an Medical College to form Xi’an Jiaotong University.
Organization
Xi’an Jiaotong University has 25 schools, offering undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs in a wide range of disciplines. The university also has several research institutes and centers, including the Shaanxi Key Laboratory of Intelligent Robot and Control, the State Key Laboratory for Strength and Vibration of Mechanical Structures, and the National Demonstration Center for Experimental Electrical and Electronic Engineering Education.
Campus
The Xi’an Jiaotong University campus covers an area of over 5,000 acres, with a total floor space of over 4 million square meters. The campus is divided into three main areas: the Xingqing campus, the Yanta campus, and the Qujiang campus. The Xingqing campus is the original campus, and is located in the heart of the city. The Yanta campus is located to the south of Xingqing campus, and is home to most of the university’s science and engineering departments. The Qujiang campus is a modern campus that was built in 2013 and is located in the eastern part of the city.
