Overview
The Weizmann Institute of Science is one of the world’s leading multidisciplinary research institutes located in Rehovot, Israel. It aims to advance science for the benefit of humanity, with research areas ranging from biology and medicine to physics and mathematics.
History
The institute was founded in 1934 by renowned chemist and philanthropist, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, who later became the first president of Israel. The institute was initially established as the Daniel Sieff Research Institute, and in 1949, it was renamed as the Weizmann Institute of Science.
Organization
The institute is governed by a board of directors, and its research activities are managed by six faculties – Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science, Neuroscience and the Feinberg Graduate School. It also has various interdisciplinary research centers, including the Nancy and Stephen Grand Israel National Center for Personalized Medicine and the Weizmann Institute of Science–National Research Center for Environmental Protection.
Campus
The campus of the Weizmann Institute of Science spreads over an area of 250 hectares and includes modern research laboratories, lecture halls, a library, and student dormitories. It also features a botanical garden, a museum of science and technology, and a water tower that serves as a landmark.

The institute offers undergraduate, graduate, and post-doctoral programs in various disciplines of science. It has partnerships with leading universities around the world and offers joint degrees and exchange programs for students.
