The University of New South Wales (UNSW) is a public research university located in Sydney, Australia. It was established in 1949 as the “New South Wales University of Technology” with a focus on engineering and technology. History
UNSW’s roots can be traced back to the Sydney Mechanics School of Arts, founded in 1833. In 1949, the New South Wales University of Technology was established to address the shortage of skilled personnel in technical industries. In 1958, the university was granted full university status and became known as the University of New South Wales.
Organization
UNSW is governed by a Council, which is responsible for overseeing the university’s overall direction and finances. The Vice-Chancellor is the university’s chief executive officer and is responsible for implementing the Council’s decisions. UNSW has nine faculties, each of which is led by a Dean.
Campus
