Overview

The University of Miami (UM) is a private research university located in Coral Gables, Florida, USA. Founded in 1925, UM has more than 16,000 students from all over the world studying in its 11 schools and colleges. It is known for its outstanding programs in business, law, medicine, marine science, music, and communication.

History

UM was founded by a local citrus grower and a group of businessmen in 1925. The first classes were held in 1926 on a campus modeled after the University of Cambridge. During World War II, UM was used as a training ground for Navy pilots. In the 1950s, the university began to expand its academic programs and research activities. Today, UM is recognized as one of the top universities in the United States.
