University of Illinois at Chicago
The University of Illinois at Chicago, also known as UIC, is a public research university in Chicago, Illinois. It was founded in 1982 and is one of the largest universities in the Chicago area, with over 33,000 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs. UIC is known for its diverse student body and high-quality academic programs.
UIC was created in 1982 through the consolidation of two separate campuses of the University of Illinois system: the Medical Center campus and the Chicago Circle campus. Chicago Circle, originally known as the University of Illinois Chicago Undergraduate Division, was founded in 1965 as a response to increased demand for higher education in the Chicago area. Over the years, UIC has grown to become one of the leading urban research universities in the country.
UIC is part of the University of Illinois system, which also includes the flagship campus in Urbana-Champaign and the campus in Springfield. The university is divided into 16 colleges and schools, including the College of Education, the College of Business Administration, and the College of Medicine.
UIC is located on the Near West Side of Chicago, just west of downtown. The university’s main campus is situated on 240 acres and is home to numerous academic and research buildings, as well as residence halls, dining facilities, and recreational areas. UIC is also home to many student organizations, including cultural clubs, service organizations, and sports teams.
UIC offers over 250 degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional levels. The university is known for its strong programs in health sciences, engineering, and business, among others. UIC is also recognized for its research excellence, with over $400 million in research funding awarded annually.

UIC also has a strong athletics program, with 20 NCAA Division I sports teams and numerous intramural and club sports.
UIC’s athletics program, known as the Flames, includes 20 NCAA Division I teams, including basketball, soccer, and volleyball. The university is a member of the Horizon League and has a strong tradition of athletic success. UIC also has many recreational facilities on campus, including a state-of-the-art fitness center and numerous outdoor recreational areas.
