Overview

The University of Illinois at Chicago, also known as UIC, is a public research university in Chicago, Illinois. It was founded in 1982 and is one of the largest universities in the Chicago area, with over 33,000 students enrolled in undergraduate and graduate programs. History

UIC was created in 1982 through the consolidation of two separate campuses of the University of Illinois system: the Medical Center campus and the Chicago Circle campus. Chicago Circle, originally known as the University of Illinois Chicago Undergraduate Division, was founded in 1965 as a response to increased demand for higher education in the Chicago area. Over the years, UIC has grown to become one of the leading urban research universities in the country.

Organization
