University College London (UCL) is a public research university located in London, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1826 and is the third oldest university in England.


UCL was founded as the University of London in 1826, with the aim of providing higher education to the people of the city. It was the first university in England to admit students irrespective of their religious beliefs or social status. In 1836, it became known as University College London, following the merger with the London Medical Colleges.


UCL is divided into 11 faculties, each offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. These faculties include Arts and Humanities, Brain Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Life Sciences, Laws, Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Population Health Sciences, Social and Historical Sciences, Built Environment, Institute of Education, and Medical Sciences.
