University College London (UCL) is a public research university located in London, United Kingdom. It was founded in 1826 and is the third oldest university in England.

History

UCL was founded as the University of London in 1826, with the aim of providing higher education to the people of the city. It was the first university in England to admit students irrespective of their religious beliefs or social status. In 1836, it became known as University College London, following the merger with the London Medical Colleges.
