Overview
Sichuan University is located in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province in China. It is one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in China, and is a member of the top-tier of the Chinese universities that participate in the State-sponsored “Project 985” and “Project 211” initiatives. Sichuan University is renowned for its excellence in research, teaching, cultural exchange, and social services.
History
The origins of Sichuan University can be traced back to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), when Jinjiang College was founded in 1896. In 1920, the college was merged with several other colleges to form National Sichuan University. In 1952, the University was restructured as one of the eight premier universities in China. It was officially named “Sichuan University” in 1985.

Sichuan University is organized into 29 colleges and schools, which offer degree programs in various disciplines, ranging from science, engineering, medicine, to humanities, law, economics, and management.
Campus
Sichuan University has three main campuses, occupying a total area of about 1,396 acres. The Wangjiang Campus, located in the western part of Chengdu, is the oldest and largest campus. The Huaxi Campus, located in the south, is the medical campus. The Jiang’an Campus, located in the central business district of Chengdu, is mainly for the School of Law and Business.
