It was formed in 1907 through the merger of the Royal College of Science, the Royal School of Mines, and the City and Guilds College. History
Imperial College London has its roots in several institutions that were established in the 19th century. The Royal College of Science was founded in 1851, the Royal School of Mines in 1853, and the City and Guilds College in 1878. These institutions merged in 1907 to form Imperial College of Science and Technology, which was later renamed Imperial College London in 2007.
