History
Gebze Technical University was founded in 1992 as a state university with the mission to educate highly qualified professionals to meet the needs of the rapidly developing industry in Turkey. The university started with three faculties: Engineering, Science, and Arts and Sciences. Later, the university added new faculties and departments, and currently, it has 8 faculties and 4 vocational schools.
Organization
Gebze Technical University has eight faculties, four vocational schools, and two institutes. The faculties are Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Architecture, Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine, and Faculty of Fine Arts. The vocational schools are Gebze Technical Vocational School, Kocaeli Vocational School, Darıca Vocational School, and İzmit Vocational School. The two institutes are Institute of Science and Technology and Institute of Social Sciences.
Campus
Gebze Technical University’s main campus is located in Gebze, Kocaeli. The campus covers an area of 1,500,000 square meters and has modern facilities, including classrooms, laboratories, libraries, computer centers, sports facilities, and dormitories. The university has also established another campus in Istanbul, the GTU Istanbul Campus.
