Early Life and Education
Jeffrey Gundlach was born on October 30, 1959 in Amherst, New York. He grew up in a middle-class family and attended Dartmouth College, where he earned a BA in mathematics in 1981. Gundlach then went on to earn an MBA from Yale University in 1983.
Career and Achievements
After completing his education, Gundlach began his career at TCW Group, where he worked for over two decades. During his time at TCW, he became a renowned bond investor and helped to grow the firm’s assets under management from $4 billion to $200 billion. In December 2009, Gundlach was fired from TCW, which led him to start his own firm, DoubleLine Capital, in early 2010.
Under Gundlach’s leadership, DoubleLine has become one of the fastest-growing investment firms in the world. As of 2021, the firm has over $150 billion in assets under management and offers a range of mutual funds and hedge funds. In 2016, he pledged $42.5 million to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery in Buffalo, New York.
