Early Life and Education
Chen was born in Hangzhou, China in 1972. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Automation from Zhejiang University in 1994 and his Master’s degree in Signal Processing and Control from Southwest Jiaotong University in 1997.
Career and Achievements
After graduation, Chen worked as a research engineer for Philips in Singapore from 1998 to 2000. In 2001, he founded Hikvision with his former classmate Hu Yangzhong in Hangzhou. The company started as a small workshop producing digital video recorders and later expanded into manufacturing video surveillance equipment.
Under Chen’s leadership, Hikvision has become one of the largest video surveillance equipment providers in the world. The company went public on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange in 2010 and has since expanded its operations to over 150 countries, employing more than 34,000 people worldwide.
In 2017, Hikvision was listed on the Forbes Global 2000 list, ranking 926th with a revenue of $6.6 billion. In 2018, Hikvision was named among the world’s top global innovators by Clarivate Analytics.
Chen is also a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference.
