Roberto Hernandez Ramirez began his career in the banking industry in the early 1970s. He joined Grupo Financiero Banorte as a director in 1972, and by 1976 he had become the bank’s CEO. Under his leadership, Banorte grew to become one of Mexico’s largest banks, with assets of over $120 billion.

In 1991, Roberto joined Banamex as Vice Chairman, and helped turn the bank around during a difficult period. He played a key role in the merger between Banamex and Citibank in 2001, which created one of the largest financial institutions in Latin America.
