Early Life and Education
Prajogo Pangestu was born in Palembang, South Sumatra, Indonesia in 1949. He is the third of five siblings. After finishing high school, he moved to Jakarta to study economics at the University of Indonesia. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Economics in 1973.

Career and Achievements
Prajogo Pangestu started his career as a bookkeeper in a small company in Jakarta. In 1975, he founded Barito Pacific Group with a friend. The company initially focused on the trading of plywood and other wood products. However, with the rapid growth of Indonesia’s economy, Prajogo Pangestu diversified his business interests to include petrochemicals, property development, and telecommunications.

In 1993, Barito Pacific Group acquired Indopoly Swakarsa Industry, a petrochemicals company that produces polypropylene and high-density polyethylene. The acquisition was a major success for the company, as it made Barito Pacific one of the largest producers of petrochemicals in Indonesia.

In the early 2000s, Prajogo Pangestu turned his attention to property development. He founded Barito Pacific Land, a subsidiary of Barito Pacific Group, that specializes in the development of residential and commercial properties. The company has completed several notable projects, including Bloomington Residences in Surabaya and Bogor Icon in Bogor.

Personal Life
Prajogo Pangestu is married and has four children. He is known to be a private person and rarely gives interviews to the media.
