Early Life and Education

Parekh was born on August 10, 1936, in Mumbai, India. He belonged to a lower-middle-class family and had to struggle for financial support. Parekh completed his high school education from Mumbai and joined St. Xavier’s College to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Science.

Career and Achievements

After completing his degree, Parekh worked for a few textile mills for a year but soon realized that his destiny lies in the business world. He was only 22 when he founded Pidilite Industries in 1959 with a capital of Rs. 35,000, which was borrowed from his family and friends. Initially, the company produced only one product called ‘Fevicol’ – a synthetic resin adhesive. However, Parekh’s dedication and hard work took the company to great heights, making Pidilite Industries one of the largest adhesive manufacturers in India.

Pidilite Industries now has a presence in over 100 countries and has diversified into sectors like paints, construction chemicals, and art materials. In 2010, Parekh was awarded the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, recognizing his contribution to the country’s industrial sector.

Personal Life

Parekh is now in his 80s and continues to play an active role in running Pidilite Industries. He is known to be a humble and down-to-earth person and is a strong believer in giving back to society. Parekh’s philanthropic activities include donations to various educational institutions and hospitals.
