He was appointed Chairman of ADT, and served as CEO of Hawley Group PLC, while also being Chairman of Carlisle Group. Ashcroft is also the founder and former CEO of the insurance company, The Bear Stearns Companies, one of the largest insurance brokers in the world.
Apart from his business ventures, Ashcroft has also contributed significantly to the political landscape. He has been a long-standing member of the UK’s Conservative Party, and made generous donations to their campaigns. In 2000, he was ennobled, becoming a life peer as Baron Ashcroft.
