Daniel Sundheim was born on June 17, 1976, in Long Island, New York. He attended the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1998 with a degree in economics. While at Penn, Sundheim was a member of the varsity squash team and served as captain of the team during his senior year.

Career and Achievements

After college, Sundheim began his career as an analyst at Viking Global Investors, a hedge fund founded by Andreas Halvorsen, David Ott, and Brian Olson. While at Viking, Sundheim worked on the firm’s technology and healthcare portfolios, helping to identify investment opportunities and manage risk.

In 2002, Sundheim left Viking to join TPG-Axon Capital Management, another hedge fund specializing in long/short equity strategies. At TPG-Axon, Sundheim was a partner on the investment team responsible for the fund’s global media and telecommunications investments.

In 2010, Sundheim returned to Viking Global as a partner and senior analyst. During his time at the firm, he helped to build and manage the healthcare and technology portfolios, and played a key role in the firm’s investment in Facebook’s IPO.

In 2017, Sundheim founded D1 Capital Partners, a global investment firm based in New York City. At D1, he manages a portfolio of investments in a broad range of industries and geographical regions. Some of the firm’s notable investments include a stake in the Chinese tech giant Alibaba, and investments in the financial technology company Stripe, and the gene-editing firm CRISPR Therapeutics.

In addition to his work at D1, Sundheim also serves on the board of directors of various companies, including Spotify and PagerDuty.

Personal Life

Sundheim is married with three children, and he and his family reside in New York City. In his free time, he enjoys playing squash and other sports.
