Overview

Harley Sy is a Filipino billionaire businessman, philanthropist and son of magnate Henry Sy Sr. He currently serves as the President and CEO of SM Prime Holdings, Inc.

Early Life and Education

Harley Sy was born on January 17, 1966 in Manila, Philippines. He is the youngest of six siblings, with his father being the founder of the SM Group of Companies, the largest retailer and shopping mall operator in the Philippines.

He earned his degree in Bachelor of Science in Management Engineering from Ateneo de Manila University in 1987, and obtained his Master’s degree in Business Administration from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 1991.

Career and Achievements

After completing his Master’s degree, Harley Sy returned to the Philippines and worked for several years in various positions within the SM Group, including Assistant Vice President for Corporate Planning and Vice President for Operations.

In 1994, he was appointed as the President of SM Prime Holdings, Inc., and successfully led the company in its expansion within the Philippines and overseas. Under his leadership, the company diversified its real estate portfolio, which now includes residential properties, hotels, and convention centers.

Harley Sy was also instrumental in the development of the SM Mall of Asia, which is currently the fourth largest shopping mall in the world, and the establishment of the SM Foundation, which aims to provide education, healthcare, and disaster response to underprivileged communities in the Philippines.

He has received numerous recognitions for his contributions to the business community, including the Outstanding Achievement Award in Real Estate Development from the Asia Pacific Property Awards in 2016, and the Lifetime Contributor Award from the Philippine Daily Inquirer Property Awards in 2019.

Personal Life

Harley Sy is married and has four children. He is known for his philanthropic activities, particularly in the fields of education and healthcare. He is also an avid golfer and has participated in several local and international tournaments.
