Ji Qi was born in 1969 in Guangdong, China. He graduated from Wuhan University with a degree in electronic engineering. After which, he went on to earn a PhD from Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

In 2006, Ji co-founded the Xiamo Corporation, with the aim of providing high-quality technology products at an affordable price. The company initially started with smartphone products, but it later expanded to produce a range of consumer electronics, including laptops and smart home products.
Under Ji Qi’s leadership, Xiaomi Corporation became one of China’s leading smartphone brands. The company has expanded globally and has a presence in over 80 countries. In 2018, the company’s revenue reached $30 billion.
