Early Life and Education

Anand Burman was born on September 8, 1951, in Kolkata, India, into a family of entrepreneurs. His grandfather, Dr. S.K. Burman, founded Dabur in 1884 as a small pharmacy in Kolkata. Anand’s father, Dr. A.K. Burman, and uncle, G.C. Burman, continued to expand the business, introducing new products and establishing a presence in international markets.

Anand attended St. Xavier’s College in Kolkata, where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Commerce. He then pursued further education in the United States, earning an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Career and Achievements

After completing his MBA, Anand Burman returned to India and joined Dabur in 1975. He started as a management trainee and worked his way up the corporate ladder, gaining experience in various departments such as manufacturing, sales, and marketing.

In 1998, Anand was appointed the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dabur, succeeding his father. Under his leadership, the company widened its product portfolio, expanded into new markets, and increased its revenue significantly. Dabur currently sells products in over 120 countries and has a market capitalization of over $11 billion.

Apart from his involvement in Dabur, Anand has also served as a director on the boards of other companies, such as Aviva Life Insurance and Great Eastern Shipping Company.

Anand Burman has received several awards and recognitions for his contributions to the Indian business community. In 2014, he was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in the Consumer Products & Retail category.

Personal Life

Anand Burman is married and has two children. He is known for his commitment to philanthropy and has been actively involved in various charitable causes. He is a trustee of the Burman Family Holdings, which supports initiatives in the areas of health and education.
